Hey,
So I thought I’d just share something I came across when scambaiting today. I went on the phone to a “technician” they connected to my PC and used a tool called “dxdiag.exe” which displayed all the real information even though I had changed it in regedit, I took ownership of the tool and deleted it from my vm. Hopefully we won’t get this.
Yours,
Spencer
@Spencer_Computers#57278 This tool has been preinstalled in Windows since 95 I believe, it’s for viewing DirectX information (like what version your graphics hardware supports), along with other general hardware details. Scammers have used this to identify VMs for awhile now, although it is used less often than msinfo32. The info that I’m assuming gave you away was the BIOS and or chip type, I believe these are set by the computers BIOS and are unchangble through Windows, although someone else may know of a way. Are these the keys you’ve already edited? I have a feeling they are, but If not , then give them a try: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SystemInformation]
“BIOSVersion”=“F.9x”
“BIOSReleaseDate”=“08/24/2010”
“SystemManufacturer”=“Hewlett-Packard”
“SystemProductName”=“HP Pavilion dv Notebook PC”
“InformationSource”=dword:00000001
I’ve never done this myself, so I can’t assure you that these are the correct ones, or if it will even work or not, but it’s worth a try, please report back and tell me the results you get.
