I just received a call from a spoofed number with an Indian guy asking me if I have car insurance. I reply yes. Then he asked me what provider I use. I told him a random company. He then puts me on conference call to Allstate saying he’s transferring me to a senior agent. An American answers saying “Thank you for calling Allstate, how can I help you?” I said I was talking to an Indian gentleman and he transferred me to you… HANGS UP IMMEDIATELY
BEWARE of this SCAM! These people are trying to get your personal information!
I was getting these calls a few weeks ago, after I clicked on a Facebook car insurance ad. Hippo Insurance, I think. Don’t know if it’s related to the incoming calls. It has stopped now.
The cold call I received I BELIEVE conferenced called a legitimate company pretending to be the opener of a sales call. DO NOT give personal information over the phone from COLD CALLS. Interesting how the cold caller immediately hangs up when I mentioned an “Indian gentleman.”
I got another cold call today from an Indian guy, this time pretending to be a sales call for health insurance. I pretended to be dumb and interested going through his opening script until he said he was going to transfer me to his senior agent. The man picks up (American accent), asks me if I’m interested in getting health insurance. I replied yes. He asks me my name, my age, and zipcode. I gave him fake information. He then asks me for my birthday. I told him, “This is my callback number in case we get disconnected. (###)##-####. Did you get it?” He replies, “Yes.” Then I told him to please call me back immediately in case we get disconnected. I then told him that I have something important to say and asked if they outsourced to Indian callcenters. He says no. I told him that I was called by an Indian guy pretending to be a telemarketer and that the call he received is a conference call. I made him aware that this conference call was done to hear us do business over the phone to get my personal information. I made him aware that this was a scam going around. He was surprised and thanked me.
