How the scam works: The Scammer puts an expensive, high-demand item like Ps5, Xbox Series X, or the latest iPhone at a price that is too good to be true (under $100) or for free. OfferUp only allows refunds within the app, so the scammer requires requires to call a number outside the app and make a transaction with paypal or cashapp. The Scammer only accepts shipping, and even if the item is free, the scammer wants the victim to pay money for “shipping”, often claiming to use Fedex since it’s not run through OfferUp. Once the victim pays the money for “shipping”, the scammer blocks them and claims the money, without a single item delivered to the victim’s house.
