How to spot a scam:
personal experience (this might not be the best method for beginners)
Call a telephone number and find out if it realy is a scam
(NEVER EVER use your own mobile of home phone to try this)
Visit a suspected website or popup
(be very freaking carefull with this since lots can go wrong)
search for known reports
search sites like
www.scammer.info
www.[t]echscammersunited.com
www.icemugger.com
or any other reliable site
search for evidence or usefull information
to get evidence sites like
www.lookup.robokiller.com
www.nomorobo.com
www.directory.youmail.com
and many others can help
while sites like
www.geekyphonelookup.top
www.searchpeoplefree.com
https://whois.domaintools.com/
help to find information about the people behind the scam
ask others for help
first check if you can find an existing post with similar questions and read it, otherwise
just create a post with the general discussion and support tagsand ask if others can help you
identify certain scams
or create a post with the general discussion and scambait tools or software/hardware tag
and ask if others can explain their search methods
If you are not sure if information is correct you can always post it saying you are not sure if the information is correct.
