On February 24, 2024, the Crime Branch of the Mumbai Police raided the Goreagon-based Zoho Tech Solution and arrested seven individuals, with at least three others on the lookout.
- The scammers have facilitated fraudulent cold calls to US and Canadian residents under the guise of Amazon to falsely claim that a parcel they ordered was intercepted due to containing narcotic substances before then posing as the Attorney General’s Office for Canada or the state of Texas.
- In order to avoid “serious charges for drug trafficking and money laundering,” the victims would be asked to withdraw money from their bank account and transfer them into a Bitcoin wallet.
- The scammers have operated since December 2023 and have used American TextNow numbers.
