On September 16, 2025, police in Mumbai, India raided an illegal call center for facilitating antivirus scams against American citizens under the false personation of McAfee and the Geek Squad. The call center operated out of the 7th floor of the Vihan Commercial Complex, Walbhat Rd, next to Jawaharnagar Phatak, Sonawala Industry Estate, Goregaon, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400063, India.
How their scam worked was:
- The scammers would send fraudulent email invoices, falsely claiming their victims were billed for an auto-renewal of their antivirus plan.
- When the victims called the designated “suppoat” line, the scammers will demand them to purchase $250-500 in gift cards, which would then be converted into cryptocurrency.
13 individuals were arrested, including two owners and a manager. Police have also seized 15 computers, 10 laptops and 20 cell phones
