Scam Number: +1 (800) 430-8876
Scammer’s Website or Email: NA
Additional information about this scam: This might be the most convoluted thing I’ve seen in a long time.
A friend posted on Facebook that FedEx had brought a package she didn’t order, from a (genuine) Home Depot warehouse. Inside was a small metal bracket. Somehow she found a Reddit post from a woman who said she had also received a package she didn’t order, and when she called the number on the label, got a recording that said “Press 1 if you are over 50. Press 2 if you are under 50.” She pressed 2, and was immediately disconnected. When she tried to call back, her number was blocked.
She called back from a different number, pressed 1, and was connected to a “medic alert device service center.” She said something like “Nice scam!” to the “agent,” and was immediately disconnected and blocked.
She called the real Home Depot, and the rep said the order number was real, and associated with a reseller who had “flags on their account.” He advised just tossing the package.
My friend got pretty much the same results when she called the number above, and posted it as a scam alert on FB. (Googling that number somehow gets a BBB result for Home Depot, but it’s “404,”)
I called the number today, pressed 2, and got a recording about a free gift card. That led me to someone who said her company was “Everything Breaks.” I trolled her for a few minutes, and I think she figured out I was scambaiting. She said she was going to transfer my call, but the call ended. Calling back got me “You have dialed a number that is not available from your calling area.”
Calling back from a different number and pressing 1 led to the “medic alert device service center” described above. I think the “agent” there was an AI. From there (after a few minutes of trolling) I got transferred to a “Medicare” thing (which I think was also answered by an AI), and finally to “Stacie,” who I think is in India. She hung up on me after a few minutes of baiting, and the number I called from is now blocked.
I think they were initially targeting people over 50, but decided to add something for those who press 2.

Did you get blocked? If so, can you try a different number, press 1, and see where that goes?
I’d like to get some opinions on whether some of those “agents” are AI. If you make it all the way to the “red, white and blue Medeecare card” level, use an old guy voice. ![]()
I’m happy to report that this number appears to be out of service. My TextNow rang it for a few seconds then the call immediately dropped.
I’ll bet they blocked the number you were calling from. I’ll have to check my outgoing call log to make sure I use a different number each time, because I had to try two different numbers. But I did connect and pressed 1, and ended up “speaking with” Jessica, the medic alert AI. After a couple of minutes of fart sounds and other responses she wasn’t programmed for, she said “You are eligible for a free gift, so let me transfer your call,” and the call ended.
It was a new number. Never called them before.
As soon as I saw your comment, I thought “We got 'em already?” and called them. It went through, although I had to change my outgoing number once. Maybe I hadn’t changed it from my previous call.
Give them another poke, and let us know how it goes.
Everything Breaks is a shotty albeit legit company I thought from our last dive we took into them…? Can anyone else verify?
I don’t know much about them except for their TV ads, but I did see a post somewhere about another company impersonating Everything Breaks. That might suggest that they have a better reputation than the impostor does, or at least the impostor thinks so.
I didn’t delve into the press 2/gift card thing to find out just who was behind it.
But in my book, any company that makes or in any way participates in unsolicited calls to numbers that are on the Do-Not-Call Registry is a sh¡††y company.
they blocked my number
I suspect they might be blocking every number that calls them, right after the initial call. Whether they get to run a scam on the caller or not, they probably don’t want to hear from that caller again.
To me, that’s just one more indication that it’s a sleazebag operation.
I’m keeping a log of my calls, and the outgoing numbers I use, It’s kind of a PITA, but I think it’s worth if if they’re paying for all the non-productive calls going to their toll-free number.
I don’t imagine they’re shipping all those brackets, pens, or whatever for free, either.
