Additional information about this scam: I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a fraudulent and threatening interaction I experienced related to my mortgage account.

Recently, I was contacted by an individual identifying himself as Joe Karwin, claiming to represent a mortgage provider called Finance of America. This person used a number that appeared to be associated with my actual mortgage company and stated that my loan was in default. Under pressure and threats of immediate foreclosure, I was coerced into making a payment of approximately $2,000.

I now have reason to believe this was not a legitimate communication from my mortgage servicer. I did not receive any official notification through verified channels, and the payment appears to have been made under false pretenses. This situation has caused me significant distress and financial harm.

It is definitely a scam. The phone was answered by an Indian or Paki.
NEVER believe these calls. You MUST verify with your own mortgage company using their contact information. Your first clue is the foreign accent. Always tell them you are calling your actual company or bank. Your own company would have sent you information beforehand. Plus, they don’t foreclose that quickly. It takes legal action and months to do so.

I spoke with Finance of America and they want you to call them. I made a report but they need your information and you need to file a police report. The scammers are pretending to be Freedom Mortgage which is a real collection agency. I called the real company and they could have actually cared less. I am not surprised.
