On March 10, 2026, a federal grand jury in central Georgia indicted Indian nationals Mihir Patel and Himanshubhai Barot for stealing at least $116,000 through a Social Security scam operation between March 1, 2021 and March 15, 2021, where
- The two would call their victims under the false personation of law enforcement officers or federal officials, falsely claiming their victims’ “legal and financial interests were at risk.”
- The victims will be asked to withdraw large amounts of cash, estimated to be between $10,000 and $30,000, and mail it off to Patel, who would show up with a fake ID and go under the name of “David Williams.”
- Once the money is collected, the scammers would take photos of the packages being opened and share said pictures with other co-conspirators.
The two were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud. Barot is also on an ICE hold due to having entered the country illegally, so I HOPE HE ENJOYS GAUTMO!
