Microsoft Refund scammer with coinbase

I got a call yesterday and a call today from people claiming to be Microsoft telling me that I had been scammed a few months ago from a computer tech and they were going to refund me my $299.99. I of course had never paid them anything but I’m guessing they had my number from a database from awhile ago when I called some tech support scammer to pester them.

These guys logged onto my computer, went to coinbase.com (I had never heard of that before) and made me an account. (I had to quickly create a fake gmail account since it wanted email confirmation.) During the account setup, they chose the password.

After logging in, they had me put in my credit card information. This is where it all sort of came to a grinding halt because I just input fake info and it of course didn't go through. I wasted a bunch of their time in the process, so that was good I guess.

Anyway, I'm not entirely sure what they're up to, but my theory is that once my credit card info would be in there and since they have access to my coinbase account, they would trade currency off my card and exchange it for something they can get.

Has anyone had a call like this before?

Also, I should mention that they called with a blocked number so I don’t have a way to call them back unfortunately.

@dualcitizen#14732 i think you posted in the wrong section you couldve atleast provided us with the number

As I said, I didn’t get a number since it was blocked. Just wondering if anyone else had heard of cold calls like this.
