Medicare Scammers

I am being absolutely slammed by Medicare scammers on my burners since it’s enrollment time. Couple interesting things I’ve learned so far.

  1. I used a new fake name last week for exactly one (1) call. By the next day I received an incoming call asking for that new name. That is how quickly they are picking up info.

  2. I’ve been able to get to a few licensed agents, and they all seem to be working for the same company… which I haven’t decided if should share their name yet. That’s part of what this thread is about. It is an actual insurance company, but they have a rating of “F” with the BBB. I got one agent’s name yesterday and was able to track his license down to being issued in Nevada. The second I asked why are you using Indian scammers to find leads, he dropped the call.

The second guy I got today seemed a bit more wet behind the ears, but ended up giving me a bogus phone number for his supervisor.

It’s clear there are real insurance companies working with these scammers, and the call centers sound fairly big. I’m honestly getting so many of these calls I haven’t made any outbound bait calls in almost 2 weeks. I had to drive somewhere the other day for 90 miles, and I took 3 of them just during the drive.

My thinking is this is another revenue stream for the call centers, but now what do we do about it is the question.

medicare is the one specifically meant for those over 65 so I am curious as to their leads since it would be a targeted demographic. If this is a US operation and is related to health insurance in this capacity (enrollment period relevance) then if it is using these kinds of tactics that is…that is pretty damning.

There is a good bit you can find through sites like opencorporates and similar for business info. You mentioned a specific location or at least state so checking that areas records within their chamber of commerce and other state agencies should also yield you some intel.

The registered agent and also name of the individual acting as principal/president/CEO would be of further interest to look into, especially for court documents and litigious activity.
