Additional information about this scam: The phone number and first website was given during the call. Transferred twice to switch to “justalerts”. The first two “verifiers” said they were with justalerts and gave the phone number above. The last person I talked to said they were with “Smart Med Alerts” and verified the 801 number as a call-back number. So then, I called smartmedalerts directly on their 866 number and the person who answered the phone sounded very similar to the one I was transferred to on the scam call. I couldn’t get anything else out of them, so I don’t have any proof of that. They may just be pretending to be “Smart Med Alerts”. Very shady, but typical medical device scam. Get you to switch to their device for 39.95, they never show you any products or contracts before you have to give them credit card info. They could easily get that information and just hang up and you’d never reach them again.
EDIT: Just found some extra information that links Smart Med Alert and another company Stay-Safe-Alerts. Stay-Safe-Alerts has the same name replying to complaints on the BBB site AND on their website they have a phone number of 866-339-3827 which is also the main number for Smart Med Alerts. Orders and Returns – Stay Safe Alert (It’s on this page).
Got a call here today as well. Number was 678-792-5534. which is thru IP Horizon.
Same garbage pitch for the $39.95 medical device and I had him verify the website name of justalert.org several times, along with his association with the firm. He then talked the devices shown there, which further verified the association.
When he asked for my name I said it was Adrian Velo. He later commented about the name. Adrian Velo is the party responsible for these calls. He has 2 sites on Godaddy - one at thehawksmedia.com and the other at hawksnetworks.com. The first is a fake US front that is registered thru a guy who advertises that he registers fake companies. The 2nd website shows the real location of the call center in Pakistan.
When the caller made a comment about the name “Adrian Velo”, he commented about the name and how beautiful it was, or something along that line. I responded by saying, “yea, that is the same name of they guy that I’m suing”.
Things went downhill from there. I do have the call fully recorded.
The number they used today already was marked as spam and has a prior history of doing the annoying vehicle warranty telemarketing cold calls.
Using the data that @ArtMcgee posted I was able to find some info on this.
Smartmedalert.com and stay-safe-alert.com both show the same business address at 5941 S Redwood Rd, Suite 200, Taylorsville (Salt Lake City), UT 84123. Their Yelp and BBB complaints are mainly a lot of 1 star complaints. They also are on Amazon at Amazon.com: Smart Med Alert
Not sure if their Redwood location is a physical office or just a virtual office. They are in Suite 200 and Suite 201 is a firm called EBM Marketing. No data on EBM or if they are connected at all to this scam telemarketer group… could be just a coincidence on location at this point. EBM’s listed number of 801-290-2175 would not connect, so I could not verify if they are at all part of this.
Update: Just had a long conversation with the minions at samrtmedalerts.com (recorded). They denied being associated with justalerts.org and denied making telemarketing calls. The manager said they only make calls to people who inquire about their product or are customers .
I stated several times to have their legal representation call me. I decided to call them after they called again today using what appeared to be a spoofed caller ID number from Canada.
My prior calls are from hawksnetworks.com and not Merkavoix, although their overseas call centers are similar and are in the same vicinity in Pakistan.
I then called 801-893-8159 - yep, same chipmunk voice saying to stay on the line and the same Chopin Minute waltz . They answered as Just Alert and when I asked if their website was also samrtmedalert.com he said YES, they were the same. I told him the same as I told the other people: 617 calls since August 2023 & all are logged and many get recorded. He hung up on me after things got ugly.
Just minutes later I got a call from 786-833-3732. Same call center as the others. This time he said “I am calling to let you know that you qualify for NOTHING” and then he slammed down the phone after I burst out laughing at him.
Pretty clear we hit the core base of operations on this one!
