800TollFreeNow, answers as the “suppoat team for the antivirus services” and will hang up when you ask for a company name. I called the number back and “Peter” falsely claimed my computer came with a free trial to McAfee before hanging up once I told him off.
Reported to carrier but still active
HIGHLIGHTS FROM VIRTUAL MACHINE BAIT:
- In order to “cancel,” you are asked to "open the Google Chrome and go to mfrb.site (Code: 20JK19Y, IP: 172.67.139.14
). I faked the download not working, as it was marked as unsafe by Windows Defender, so the scammer had me instead download AweSun (ID: DESKTOP-05VKMBV)
- Once remotely connected to my virtual machine, the scammer blanked my screen to close the window. Unfortunately, the remote connection kept dropping, so the scammer transferred me to voicemail.
- I called back once more, and the scammers refused to provide “suppoat”
