Malaysian police RAID 2 scam operations (71 arrested)

On July 2, 2024, police in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia raided and dismantled two separate call centers in Bukit Jalil for facilitating a pig butcher scam operation against Singaporean nationals and Jalan Hang for faciliating a Forex investment scam respectively.

  • Six male pig butchers, aged 18-29, were arrested in two separate residences for luring Singaporeans with fake accounts on Instagram and various dating apps before persuading them to invest in charlesa.biz, which has since been taken offline after being registered via PublicDomainRegistry on July 2, 2024.

    • The agents were paid $641.99/month alongside 10% commission from their defrauded investors.
    • Five of the agents are charged with criminal conspiracy and the possession of property of unknown origin.
  • 65 people from various countries, aged 20-50, were arrested for facilitating a Forex investment scam with “standard” and “premium” accounts under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which deals with cheating.

    • 25 men and 26 women were Malaysian :malaysia:, three women were Vietnamese :vietnam:, one woman was from Bangladesh :bangladesh:, one man was from Hong Kong :hong_kong:, three men and four women were Chinese :cn:, one bhenchod was Indian :india: and one woman was Thai :thailand:.
    • Police have also seized 5 iMac computers, 25 laptops, 3 desktop computers, 4 monitors, modems, routers, 2 City Hall licenses and government certificates.
