I have been called by scammers claiming to be working for carphone warehouse with unbelievable offers on handsets. The first called himself Tony, and the second was calling himself Henry.
What they have in common is that they call from Lycamobile numbers themselves, and they are calling up Lycamobile customers (or who they perceive to be Lycamobile customers). They must have a list or are going sequentially through numbers issued by Lycamobile as they have also called on numbers which were originally issued by Lyca but have now been ported out to other networks.
They speak in South Asian English accents, but they do understand Urdu/Hindi (and give insults back) when spoken to. These could be people with inside knowledge of Lycamobile UK's operations.
They have called on +447404445194 and +447404444844. Interesting as the second number would be quite sought after and would fetch a good price if they wanted to sell it, yet they are risking getting it shut down by using it for illegal activities.
I have not got to the bottom of how they scam money, as they hang up quickly when they sense they are getting nowhere. I wanted to call back and waste their time some more, but textnow can not call these numbers for free it seems.
Perhaps others have had experience of this scam and know how it operates, or can use these numbers to investigate it.
