The scammer tried to sign me up for an IRS tax settlement plan from Legal Tax Defense, Inc., a BBB-accredited tax attorney from 15991 RED HILL AVE STE 208, TUSTIN, CA 92780, USA.
User complaints on their BBB listing indicate patterns of fraudulent activity, such as:
- Making fraudulent cold calls through multiple numbers, charging consumers thousands of dollars and reporting their consumers’ information to the IRS.
- Not doing anything to lower the taxes their consumers owe.
- Making unsolicited cold calls to individuals on the do-not-call registry, thereby violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
On July 28, 2023, the company was sued for violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) in the Western District of Texas after the plaintiff, Erik Salaiz, received at least six unwanted cold calls from an unspecified third-party on behalf of Legal Tax Defense when his number was on the do-not-call registry. The case was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice on November 29, 2023.

The company has also been sued for TCPA violations in the Central District of California and the Northern District of Illinois. The California case was dismissed on September 1, 2024.
