On August 28, 2024, police in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia conducted a raid against an illegal call center operating out of two luxury residences to facilitate a pig butcher scam that involved the use of programs like Tinder and 9Monster. The victims were asked to download two investment applications:
21 individuals were arrested, including 17 Chinese nationals , one Malaysian , one from Hong Kong , one from Laos and one from Myanmar . The employees were paid commissions worth around 20% of the total money they scammed from victims.
Police have also seized 17 computers, 55 cell phones, a router, a set of house keys and two alarm units.
