On February 6, 2026, police in Kolkata, West Bengal, India raided an illegal call center operating out of a residential apartment in Greenfield City, Jote Shibrampur for facilitating Microsoft technical support scams against American citizens. How their scam worked was:
- The scammers fraudulently advertised their “suppoat” line numbers as official Microsoft helplines and facilitated calls through Microsoft Teams.

- To avoid raising suspicion, the scammers also used VPN services like TurboVPN and various electronic documents issued by Microsoft and various American organizations.
- The victims will be asked to give the scammers remote access to their computers through TeamViewer, UltraViewer and AnyDesk, then give the scammers access to their bank accounts.
- The scammers will siphon funds from their victims with Apple gift cards or cryptocurrency.
Eight bhenchods were arrested:
- Junaid Ali, a 24-year-old from Garden Reach
- Md Sakir, a 24-year-old from Entally
- Md Kurshid Akhtar, a 32-year-old from Beniapukur
- Shadab Khan, a 31-year-old from Entally
- Kundan Roy, a 24-year-old from Tiljala
- Md Hussain Ahmed Khan, a 36-year-old from New Market
- Zakir Khan, a 45-year-old from Shrirampur
- Sk Amirulla, an 18-year-old from Karaya.
Police have also seized 5 laptops, 2 routers, 12 smartphones and a large volume of digital data believed to be directly connected to their scam.
