I was wondering if this “Awaiting approval” thing is for everyone or it’s just me, due to having signed up recently. I know you are looking out for bots, possible scammers, or any other evil group of individuals on the site with malicious intents. I get that, I’d do that too and that’s great.
But is this temporary? Do I need to verify stuff? Or all of my future posts will all be verified forever?
Also, how do I get those cool badges, like the "Scam Hunter" badge?
@HER#64922 u get the scam hunter badge when you are always scouting for numbers and you try to gather as much info about them as possible. I have started doing that so you can check out my profile, or even better check out @drwat or @JusticeinTexas
In this “industry” and many others in cyber security, everything revolves around trust. You cant just trust anyone you see, because miscreants will abuse it. So while it sucks that some good people have to deal with delays in posting stuff, it helps the over all ecosystem and allows us to continue doing what we do. Thunder essentially switched this site to “guilty until proven innocent”. Once he (mods) knows you are good, you get the free pass.
@HER#64922 You have to find a lot of numbers and spend a lot of time basically hunting them down. You have to proof them all so that you do not post an actual real number otherwise that person will get harassed. You have to make a lot of calls and a lot of posts. I have over 2300 posts and almost 1700 upvotes and that took me 9 months to do. @drwat has the badge because he provides so much information on India and is an expert on many subjects. He is really amazing. You just need to take your time and work at it, just like anything that you do in life. You cannot expect to be an expert right away. If I sound like your mother it is probably because i am old enough to be. If you really want to learn, go back through my profile and listen to some of the scam baiting like being blind, in a wheelchair, pregnant, military husband, etc. Develop several personas and get good at them. Research addresses and SSN/SIN numbers so that you can fool them. Use phone numbers that do not belong to anybody else because even FireRTC makes errors and gives you real ones. That is why you HAVE to proof them before you use them. You need your address, zipcode, area code and other info to match. Pick addresses that are not real but can be verified on Google Maps because they will check to see if that street exists. Know where the closest stores are that you can get their Wouchers at. Try to pick addresses that are in the middle of nowhere because they don’t understand that people don’t all live in cities. It is fun but it is hard work. I sometimes proof 25 numbers before I get an actual good working scammer number. If there is anything else you need, let me know. ; )
@reportingscammers007#65044 Yeah, I understand that. I can see why thunder started using that way of making sure of people who use the site to use it correctly.
@HER#65050 yea but remember, it’s not just abt the badge! You can use that badge as a goal but as you progress through your journey you’ll start to think about it less and less
Welcome to the crew and no offense to others but let’s play our cards a little closer to the chest. I appreciate your enthusiasm to rank up or be a premiere scambaiter but there is more kung fu to learn. I am nobody special, I am a janitor and on occasion I get calls on my land line which I have dubbed the “bait phone”. It only rings when scammers or Mrs. Burton’s dad calls. I wish it were otherwise but 6+ months now that’s true. I actually had to cover my eyes with your autosig so I didn’t straight up get a seizure, but other than that I’m glad you’re here and HEY even if you can post a troll recording or something let’s see what you got.
