Julius Bighoro ARRESTED for facilitating "grandparent" scam

On June 18, 2025, my 27th birthday, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in Standish, Maine arrested 48-year-old Miami, Florida resident Julius Bighoro for attempting to steal $9,500 from an elderly female through a “grandparent scam,” where:

  • Bighoro flew to Boston, Massachusetts to rent a car and drive to Maine to target elderly residents by falsely claiming their grandkids were arrested by Scarborough Police.
  • The victims will be asked to withdraw $9,500 from their bank accounts and hand them off under the belief of paying a supposed “attorney.”

Bighoro was arrested and charged with theft by deception and operating a motor vehicle under a suspended license. He is due to appear in court tomorrow, where he faces thousands of dollars in fines and up to 5 years prison.

Most of these scams originate from Dominican Republic and they use money mules in the USA.
