On November 22, 2024, the Bradenton Police Department in Florida arrested 56-year-old Jeffrey Arthur Moynihan Jr. on charges of grand theft after scamming a 74-year-old Texas resident out of at least $250,000 by posing as Elon Musk. The money was transferred into accounts belonging to Moynihan’s company, Jeff’s Painting and Pressure Washing, LLC, though police believe that he may be a victim of a separate scheme after he admitted to authorities that the money was for a girlfriend he is believed to have a purely virtual relationship with.
Moynihan is currently being held at the Manatee County Jail on a $250,000 bond and is also believed to have impersonated Johnny Depp and Lionel Richie.
