On October 8, 2024, the Columbus Police Department in Wisconsin arrested 24-year-old Jay Prajapati from India for serving as a money mule for an unspecified scam operation. His rental car, with Oklahoma license plates, was stopped at the residence of an 80-year-old victim and contained $44,100 in $100 bills, a laptop and a cell phone.
Police also reported that Prajapati flew to Iowa and collected $45,000 from a 79-year-old from Iowa, $54,000 from a 59-year-old in Illinois and $40,000 from an 80-year-old in Tennessee who also had their driver’s license and debit card stolen. Prajapati is currently being held on a $20,0-00 bail on a felony charge of receiving/concealing stolen money, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years and a $25,000 fine.
Prajapati may also face additional charges in Iowa, Illinois and Tennessee.
