Novice scambaiter here. Every now and then, I’ll come across refund scammers that try to get you to connect to their computer (instead of the other way around), typically using AnyDesk, to bring up the fake refund form. However, despite the risks, what I’ve been wanting to find out is if Kali Linux is worth it for these types of scammers to try and monitor them (even if no file deletion takes place), mainly for the purpose of saving victims. What are your thoughts on using Kali Linux for accessing scammers’ computers?
Kali Linux is an operating system. It is not any safer or less safe than any other linux based operating system. You cannot hack with kali linux. You use the collection of tools kali has. The true risk is the user, not the software. You clearly have no understanding of the platform so yes, it would be dangerous for you to use the tools kali has to offer. please dont try to hack scammers, you will end up doing more harm than good. do not delete files, it is useless and just makes it harder to do real damage to their operations. Stick to baiting, you will end up hurting more than you will help because you lack the skills to do this properly.
I realize your concern. However, as I said in my earlier post. I plan on using it for scammers who try to have you connect to their computer to bring up the fake refund form, and I don’t have plans to delete files. Now I have also practiced using Kali Linux in an isolated networking environment for that reason. However, baiting is already a risk itself, so accessing a scammer’s computer is probably going to be the bigger risk here. Still, I will keep your advice in mind for when I get into more advanced scambaiting.
Kali Linux on a VM just fine. Might consider Windows look and feel Linux like Zorin
The different Linux distributions are just a unique pre-collection of specific software. If you can’t install & use the tools on another Linux distro, just using Kali alone isn’t going to make you effective overnight.
It’s kind of like when you see someone crash a Ferrari. Just because they can afford to buy the high performance car, doesn’t mean they know how to drive it. But keep learning. Learn the tools first, just imo.
That is a good point.
I have some experience with Linux already, so I think I can just learn to use the Kali tools in the isolated network environment that I mentioned by using them to hack into a simple machine that I can just set up as a server specifically for this purpose.
