IRS Scam...I think

Yesterday (7/24) and today (7/25) I have received voicemails that have come from the same number and even though they didn’t give any specifics on what scam they are running, I suspect it’s the IRS one. Today the guy on the voicemail said something about “paying to rectify this matter”, “I will call your place of employment and your home until you are found”, and he closed off with “good luck” at the end of his voicemail which I thought was pretty humorous. Yesterday was a lady, but I don’t recall her voicemail other than that it was regarding the same thing.

Phone number they called with was local to me (763) 307-6509 but then instructed me to call 847-469-1456
The lady yesterday told me to reference case number 417### and the guy today told me to reference case GJR#### (not sure if I should or shouldn't post case #'s or not) Either I have 2 cases, or they cant keep their crap straight...lol I am planning on recording the phone call, maybe I will even call twice. :D

Got one just now (2:46pm CST) and the same dude from yesterday. I also got what I believe to be a “Update you’re Google listing” scam, today. Not sure if that’s a thing yet, but I do have a Google MyBusiness listing so there’s that. Going to look into that further. I’m starting to think that scammers are just sharing my number to give me ample opportunity to screw with them.

They are probably a fake debt collection scam. I get those calls all the time. Somehow my phone number got out there. They call you and say they have a case pending against you, they give a case and when you call they say that you have a debt that you did not pay back (usually a bs payday loan or something) and that they are going to file a lawsuit against you for bank fraud. If you ask who the debt is owed to or any pertinent information they get hostile and threaten to have you arrested. I wouldn’t call them back from your number if you so call them at all. If it’s a real debt collector they would have sent you something in the mail as is required by law. The fair debt collection practices act requires that they send you written notice and that you have 3p days to respond if it’s a real debt. Also they are required to to identify who the money is owed to and all information about them such as phone number, address, amount owed, when, etc… They try to intimidate you into paying. Hope that helps you. Do a Google search for fdcps and you can find all kinds of good info about your rights and what they can and cannot do as debt collectors. The more you know the more you have in your arsenal if you decide to go up against them. Good luck and keep posting on what happens next if anything. I’ll try to help with things I know if I can.

Sorry, was supposed to say you have 30 days to respond and dispute the claim

I literally just got the call again. Haven’t listened to the voicemail but its the same number, and got it at 10:00am. These dudes want me to call bad. I may have to call them back a few times this weekend. I am going to be using FireRTC to call  Thanks for all of that info. Just to give some background, I run an IT business and its pretty convenient that I have been dealing with a few scams right now. I have a 419 scam I am working with a lad in Lagos, I also just started an engagement with him from another bait email account of mine, I have also scheduled a phone call with him (after threatening him with the FBI and then acting all friendly and asking to know more about how his scam runs) lol, plus I have a few calls to follow up on. What I am planning to do is record the phone calls in FireRTC and share those recordings on my website to make people aware of the type of scams that are out there, how brutal and convincing they can be, along with other tactics they use, in hopes to keep people from becoming victims. Plus it’ll waste the scammers time from actually victimizing someone else.

One thing I keep thinking to myself is what my chances are of getting hired (not for real of course) and being American, which they often try to portray, if I demand to talk to "the boss", tell them a little of my IT background, say I'll train the scammers to be more convincing and skillful, demand a crazy large sum of money, up front, for my services, if they'd go for it...LOL

Sad thing is this type of scam is usually done by Americans. Bad enough we have to deal with the Indians but people from our own country makes me sick.

@Lazaruslong#41749 Exactly. These people were very much American. I guess I forgot to say anything about me trying to get “hired” by the Indian scammers. But yeah, it’s upsetting as hell that an American feels the need to rip off other Americans, especially out of boat loads of money. Maybe I will have to bring that up in my phone calls when I am ending it and tell them how ashamed they should be and how disgusting it is that they are OK with doing that to other Americans. Heck, rip off the Indian’s (in India) to get at least some of the money out of their hands…lol

I have often thought of doing some scambaiting down the road with "microsoft techs" and those similar "let me log onto your computer" scams, and using a RAT to retrieve a crap ton of data from their computers and any victim info I find, reach out to them and let them know they have been screwed. I have seen and heard of a number of people doing that.

Yeah there are people all over YouTube that do that. I’m not tech savvy enough to make a vm or anything, wish I was because I would love to mess with them too. I tend to stick to IRS scammers and Gov’t grants.
