A text blowing up the 414 area code went out last night telling people they won $200k. Luckily some kind stranger already replied letting people know it was a scam. The screenshot below shows that original message and a few of our responses with only the original sender’s phone uncensored as well as the contact number they want you to text and a “Mr. Chris Lyon.”
Made the initial contact. “Mr. Chris Lyon” has replied and sent me this message. “Congratulations,
You are a prize winner of $200,000.00. Your number have been chosen random by the board of International Monetary Fund (IMF) as one of the recipients to receive $200,000.00 free grant/donation inform of check/cash. The program is to take care of less privileged, peoples affected with covid 19, unemployed, divorce, widow, disable, and retired. We give out funds to every lucky winner that their phone number appeared on the unicef list and your number was randomly selected. You’ll never have to pay back this grant. Reply with “YES” to proceed. Thanks & Regards” Also received these messages from (202) 813-0488 from “Mr. Wally Adeyemo”: “ATTENTION: MR. [FULL NAME] HOW ARE YOU DOING TODAY AND HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU.” “Am fine thank you and this is Mr. Wally Adeyemo the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury” “Am contacting you in regarding of your Fund which will are to Transfer to your Bank” “Are you still here with me Mr. [FIRST NAME] and you need to get back to me now so that will can proceed with your Fund.”
Then tried to call me 4 times. Going to text him back.

My law enforcement contact contacted the Petal police when I first told him about it. Wondering if they’ve paid her a visit. My contact said they didn’t sound overly interested. Maybe need to find another avenue to reporting.
