I may or may not have known a crackhead lady I bought pills off of years back, who had a sovereign citizen/felon (and also crackhead) brother that ran one of these scams where he pretended to be a hacker that was going to fix your credit. he’d be running this scam, talking to people on the phone obviously either scamming or planning some illegal activity, just in front of anybody, right in public, standing around in the store, or while catching a ride with someone he was just meeting for the first time, etc… it was really off-putting
he'd pretend to be the go-between for the actual hacker, who he lived with, and never used the phone for his own safety. he'd get you to pay some money, then have an excuse for you to pay again, and again. then he'd give one of his idiot buddies a rock of crack to help with the next phase, having a second person call the mark & pretend to be an investigator for the FBI or Secret Service or the cops, who has caught the other dude hacking, attempting to change your credit scores. he knows you paid for it, and now you're going to get locked up, unless you give him some more cash, to keep him quiet.
then the original scammer calls you back, and claims the FBI is demanding even more. they just hit you up over and over, until you disappear, or you go broke. you never call the cops, because in your mind, you were doing something illegal.
it's pretty sad because, you know, the elderly aren't falling for this one, but dumb people are. i would feel so god damn terrible, ripping off someone stupid enough to believe that kind of nonsense... like stealing from a child.
anyway, the garbageperson i knew that was running this scam, i heard a funny story about him a few months back... he had just gotten out of jail, and he had a few thousand dollars cached away. on release he immediately retrieved his money and met up with a contact he made in jail, who sold him a bunch of bulk chinese fentanyl.
this is literally the day of his release now... he goes to his sister's, makes some calls, works out a trade where someone lends him their car. they drop the keys off to him and he leaves, and he peels out of the public housing complex, a known felon, in possession of a bunch of fentanyl, with no seatbelt on. he doesn't make it one block, and he is arrested for driving without a license, a bunch of traffic infractions, and for the fentanyl
i've known some characters but this guy is one of very few i've ever met that is just straight-up entirely bad so, it's fitting he is now presumably going away for a long time
