Hey all! I’m new here, and I am trying to get into scambaiting (they have gone after my grandmother and while she didn’t lose any money, I want some payback).
My main question though, is how can I do this safely? I am using a google voice number (although let me know if there are better alternatives) but I also want to make sure they are able to remote into my VM (mainly so I can waste even more of their time). Any tips for this? Is simply a VPN ok or are there safer methods? Thanks!
TextNow is good for texting and phone calls (free)
Use a VPN connection which has a kill switch feature. If the VPN connection drops, the scammer won’t get your real IP address.
If you are just calling, I’m not sure how a VPN helps you. A VPN would be necessary if you are trying to bait them to connect/remote to your Virtual Machine. As far just calling, you’re a thorn in their side & they are likely not going to come after you long term. Don’t use a number that’s connected to you, spoof your caller ID if possible, or sign up for free online services with garbage data.
