How are numbers reused?

I was wondering how numbers are reused. For example, if I switch my number, eventually someone else will get that number. I get about 40 scam calls a day. Will they get those same calls? If not, how does the company “reset” the number?

Numbers previously owned by someone occasionally get reassigned to others, but you’ve got to remember that there’re millions upon millions of number combinations. From my understanding, once your number expires or you lose it/switch it, it gets sent back into a “cluster” of numbers and reused by possible consumers etc.

If you want to know more, I suggest googling your question, as you’ll get a much better explanation.

I think it depends upon the carrier provider. A good provider recycles after several months but carriers’ middlemen (specially Indian) recycle the number to the next customer in just matter of weeks.
