The scammer will send a notice in the mail claiming that the property’s home warranty “may be expiring or may have already expired” and urge the homeowner to call them within 5 days before they reserve the right to “revoke” your eligibility. This letter contains no logo or return address, and only provides their phone number, your “property code,” and an image of your property that was taken from Google Street View
Upon calling their number, victims are then asked by a representative to read their specified “property code.” Failure to provide this code will result in the representative hanging up on your call.
Afterwards, you will then be asked to provide your personal information so they can sell you a phony insurance plan that will likely be added to your ongoing mortage payments without proper authorization. This “insurance” plan will usually come at a cost of $110 but will not actually cover anything for your home.
Victims will most likely not be able to cancel their plans or receive any refunds from the company.
