I wasn’t sure where to put this, so I figured general discussion would work fine. I have just gotten into scambaiting, and I’m pretty sure I’m doing it right. My inspiration was ScammerRevolts. He is a youtuber with 933,000 subs. His main thing is opening the file manager on AnyDesk and deleting all of the scammer’s files. I thought this would be kind of cool, but I have zero idea how to get there. Does anyone know how? Also, if you have any other general tips for tech support/refund scams, that would be great. Thanks ![]()
@teejayaitch19#178509 Heya, welcome to scambaiting. You shouldn’t follow what ScammerRevolts does. He’s click baiting and not really helpful in terms of the scambaiting community. Deleting scammer files is just a short-term success and not really what we want to achieve. It has even become some sort of a meme, the “deleting scammer files” as this is all he does. He’s doing it for the clicks and the YouTube money. I would just stick to normal scambaiting and/or investigative scambaiting to find out who they are, where they are etc and then you can submit that intel to e.g. Microsoft which does do raids in India to shut them down.

I'm not entirely sure I agree. Fundamentally, is ScammerRevolts making life easier or harder for scammers? If the latter, then he's one of the good guys IMO, even if he does things in a different way to some. If nothing else, those videos get views and help raise awareness of scams and encourage people to make the scammers' lives miserable, as with our friend in the OP.
As to @teejayaitch19 's original question, what ScammerRevolts doesn't really show is that when a scammer tries to connect with AnyDesk, the AnyDesk client will show a 9 digit ID number for the scammer who is trying to connect. What ScammerRevolts does then is to use another AnyDesk client on a different computer or VM to try to connect to the scammer's computer using their ID number being shown. To get it to work, you need to use a bit of social engineering to convince the scammer to click on the accept dialog that shows on their screen. You'll sometimes hear him say stuff like "it says waiting for partner" when he's trying to convince them to let him connect.
It can work, and in fact I've done it myself. A lot of scammers are somewhat aware of the trick these days though and it'll take a lot of failed attempts before you find one that's stupid enough to fall for it.
hello guys, I want to get into scambaiting like in few months ig, and I am deeply interested in hacking too. It would be great help if someone can dive into the contents of the following courses and lt me know if theyd help me in scambaiting too.
https://www.udemy.com/course/learn-ethical-hacking-from-scratch/
https://www.udemy.com/course/network-hacking-continued-intermediate-to-advanced/
https://www.udemy.com/course/learn-website-hacking-penetration-testing-from-scratch/
I want to complete these after my exams, thank you.
@doggggggggggggggggo#178526 Ethical hacking could help, yes. I would also add OSINT to the list. In fact, there are tons of IT security jobs that nobody even knows about, definitely worth a shot for a professional career, especially when you have already scambaiting experience.

@NeeP#178529 thanks for the answer mate, as an Indian i respect what youre doing for my country, keep up with the good work, cheers!!!
@Foreign_Hacker#178525 The thing is, the scambaiting equation isn’t that easy as you make it seem. Lots of factors and players are present which all have an impact on each other. That’s why in research we speak about a “nodal cluster”. I’ve done extensive research and written a scientific thesis on this subject and I found out the following:
>
Not all law enforcement agencies are regarding this development as positive: legal liabilities associated with civilian involvement in investigations may be an issue as well as the perceived information quality being questionable (Huey et al., 2013, p. 94f). While this may be in some cases, certainly in other cases the information provided by the individuals has been proven to be crucial and groundbreaking and thus are currently a much undervalued cluster in the cyber-space security network (BBC Panorama, 2020; Huey et al., 2013, p. 95)"
So it's also about perception in the eyes of law enforcement which would be critical if we want to professionalize scambaiting more to work hand in hand with them so we can save even more people from being scammed. But everyone has his/her own opinion on that so I won't argue.
@doggggggggggggggggo#178531 You're welcome :) Btw I love India, gonna visit again once Covid is over and everything is safe!
@NeeP#178676 Thanks sir, hope you enjoy in India, sadly these scumbags represent us on International level which gives the country a weirdo image. I really appreciate this community and Im quite hyped to be a part of it.
