On May 31, 2026, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office in Gainesville, Florida and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested 20-year-old Indian national Gurpinder Singh for facilitating a Social Security scam, where
- The scammers will send fraudulent emails falsely claiming there was an issue with their victims’ credit card.
- When called, the scammers will urge their victim to “protect” their money by withdrawing money from their bank account and converting them into gold bars.
- Once the money is collected, the scammers will then demand additional money under the false pretense of needing to protect the victims’ Social Security number.
Singh, who flew from California late last month, was arrested at a Chevron gas station on grand theft charges. He is currently being held on a $200,000 bond at the Alachua County Jail, but since he is originally from India, I HOPE HE ENJOYS GAUTMO!
