The email will claim to be an “emergency notice” that your heat will be turned off, when it is actually a WinRed fundraising campaign for Tim Scott, a Republican Senator from South Carolina.
Donors will be asked to make a $10-5,800 contribution to benefit Scott’s campaign, along with an optional automatic payment of $0. Signing up will consent the users to receiving calls and texts from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
