Amazon scam with a funny twist. I spoke with a Mr. David Morgan of the Amazon Fraud Division… apparently there was a $70 something dollar charge on my Amazon account for some Nike shoes - made by someone in Nigeria. So the guy asks if I have any friends or relatives in Nigeria that could have made the purchase. Of course I tell him I don’t, so then he gets all animated and says “Oh my got, sir, it appears your account has been hacked by some people in Nigeria!”. So I get all worked up and return the animated “Oh my god! No! I thought Amazon was secure and now you are telling me that some Nigerians have hacked Amazon - In that case, I need to cancel my Amazon account right away!”.
He told me to calm down, and asked if I was in front of my computer. You know the rest of the story ;)
Although in my case, he had to google the computer I was using "Sun Microsystems Ultra 30" to figure out I wasn't running Windows. Then he asked if I had a cell phone, which I don't. So in frustration, he said, Ok, I will go ahead and cancel this order, thank you very much". And before he could hang up, I got in why he wanted to know if I was in front of the computer... he said not to worry, and I replied, "ok, kind of hard to scam someone who doesn't run Windows, huh?" and hung up.
