  • The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has secured full refunds to victims who were tricked into buying expensive “tech support” services by NTS IT Care, an Indian call center claiming to be affiliated by Apple and Microsoft.
  • In 2020, a $4.9 million settlement was reached between the FTC and NTS CEO Jagmeet Singh Virk, who is still being tried as a criminal with the Department of Justice.
  • The average refund per victim is $937, and the victims will have 90 days to cash their settlement checks. This is more than the up to $499 the 272 known victims had to pay to “immediately repair” their computers.
  • Virk and his company have been permanently banned from selling or marketing any tech support service and benefiting from any personal data they collected from their customers, as well as conducting misleading telemarketing practices and collecting payment from their victims.

Good news. I encountered them so many times in the past.
