Finding out who owns the 8xx number

I was doing some research into the 8xx phone numbers and how easy it is to obtain them, and stumbled across a site called https://www.800forall.com which lets you find out the owner of the 8xx number.

For example, in the top right hand box, type in 844 400 0498 and then click on See Who Owns It, after putting in the captcha code.

You can see in this case, INTELIQUENT, INC. owns the number, as well as the history of when the number was activated, deactivated, etc.

I'm wondering if it is possible to start trending these numbers, to find out if there is one or two companies selling the numbers to the scammers, or if it is more wide spread.

Maybe the way to get these guys shut down is to report the numbers to the carriers, so that way they can stop selling to certain groups, organizations, or even people.

I found several brokers in Delhi Facebook posts offering tollfree numbers. One Facebook group is:

( I am pretty sure they themselves are scammers as they cater to Indian scammers). Their website sourcecode shows typos which indicates they are not professionals but connected to scam biz)

Also to add to the list:

www.freecarrierlookup.com will show you the tier 1 VoIP provider and seems to be capable of world wide searches.

www.thenumberingsystem.com.au/#/number-register/search will also show the tier 1 VoIP provider, but only searches Australian numbers

Further research shows there are many “resellers” of 8xx numbers but there are only a handful of main providers.

If you know anything about web hosting resellers, this is a very similar set up. They get a portion of the sale of the 8xx number.

@AussieScamBuster#30407 it looks like FreeCarrier doesnt work for 8xx numbers, but it is still handy for those fake IRS scammers who use non 8xx numbers. I’ve bookmarked that site. Thanks
