So just got a call from “Jason Miller”. The voicemail does actually say January the 8th and that they had been on contact with me but were unable to see if my loans qualified for debt forgiveness. They will be there until 6pm eastern time and they will have to delete the application if no response is given. Please give them a call back, even if you are not interested.
Happy hunting and as always protect your hard earned student loans.
Got them 27 minutes with one call and 10 minutes with another. I also have a direct line, although “Carly” says you have to leave her a voice mail. Both numbers still active. Here is Carly’s number 714 831 5991.
@Scamtheman86#124504 I got a vm on Dec 30 saying almost exactly the same thing. It was Justin Miller, and I needed to call back by 6, and let them know if I wanted to finish the application I started with then a while back (right…), or tell them if I was no longer interested. I listened to the vm like 8 times and I could never understand what “program” he said I had an application for, so I typed the phone number into Google and found this. Thanks.
I had the exact same VM yesterday, January 13th. I get a call from them about once a month with a similar message, though this was the first time they said that I had an application already in process and them claiming I’ve spoken to them. I used to do student loan counseling for a non profit and 100% there’s no program that would do this and if you were to sign up for a forgiveness program (like the 20 year income based repayment plan) you would be getting a call from your servicer, like Navient or Great Lakes, etc if you were in the process of setting it up. I hope folks aren’t falling for this scam, but it’s preying on folks with crippling debt and I can see how it could be convincing seeing as it’s a real person leaving the message and when your in a desperate situation, it can be so tempting to fall for shit like this. These folks are absolute scum.
@Omega621#124992 It may have said Justin. Honestly I thought it was Jason, but I could easily be wrong. I have trouble hearing the names on the voice mails. One thing is certain, this is a scam.
@MegL2020#125040 Please share the numbers that you get from the voice mails. That way folks can overwhelm their phone lines. It’s an attributive knockout, one scam baiter won’t do it, but 1,000 might. Not to brag, but student loan scam baiting is my thing. I can usually keep them on the phone for around 20-40 minutes.
Called me just now. Never said anything or who they were. All I heard on the message was, “let’s finish the application you already started filing out or give us a call by end of day to let us know other wise”. I looked it up and found this. I know your loan agency is the only one who would call you, not a third party.
Just got a VM from a different Ilinois number…it was Justin Miller and he left an identical message and told me to call the 866 number. Glad I came here first because I did just apply for loan refinancing…
@kaydoll96#125141 Hi, please feel free to share any calls you get, as well as, the number they ask you to call. I personally love to waste their time with my text now number.
I just received a call from +1 (224) 255-0538. It rang once and then hung up, I presume to go straight to voice mail.
My iPhone transcription:
“Hi this is just Justin __ following up in regards to your earlier request to be evaluated for the student forgiveness programs and the lower payment options it is currently Thursday, January 16 and the reason for my call is that we were never able to reach you to complete the application and if you can’t do so soon we're gonna have to just close it out so please let me know how you prefer to proceed no later than the end of business today even if you're not interested in pursuing a further just let us know so we can make a note in our records and stop the calls you can reach us at 866-459-9358 until 6 PM Pacific standard time I'm not available you can speak with any of the other counselors in the office and they should be able to help you adjust the ____ so thanks and have a great day…”
I’ve started getting calls from NY and MD the last week, all different numbers, and calling about 15 times a day. But this is the first one to leave a voice message- again from a MD number (443-384-0937) saying it was “Justin Miller” and to call back at this 866 number because I apparently am unreachable and they will close out my “request to be evaluated for the student forgiveness programs” if I don’t respond by the end of the day. Honestly had a mini panic attack before remembering my loan servicer has literally never tried to contact me outside of the occasional message board comment and I don’t know of any legitimate caller that doesn’t even say what company they are with.
Just got 3 calls from 3 different numbers at the same exact time, 3 voicemails, one message blank and the other two both from “Justin Novak” saying I need to call immediately to follow up on my student loan forgiveness request. The callback number is what I googled to find this forum. The other numbers on my callerID are 810-258-6468, 830-253-0570 and 831-704-3766 (last one is the one with the blank voicemail). Obviously not from my legit loan servicer and the blitz of calls is a special red flag. I do have a loan forgiveness request pending, how they know that is beyond me, but I will not be calling this number back.
@Scamtheman86#124504 I got a very similar call to this on January 15th and two calls on January 17th. Each cake went straight to voice mail, had a ~2-3 second pause at the beginning, and the tone/volume of messages was so consistent I feel like it may be a recording.
The funny thing is…I never had student loans.
I was worried that maybe someone had the wrong number and was getting screwed over, I almost called back but decided to google the number first.
I have voicemail to text, “Hi this is Justin Miller following up in regards to your earlier request to be evaluated for student loan forgiveness programs in the little payment options it’s currently Thursday January 16 and the reason for my call is that we were never able to reach you to complete the application and it we can do so soon we’re fonna have to just close it out so please let me know how you prefer to proceed no later than the end of business today. Even if you’re not interested in pursuing it further just let us know so we can make a note in our records and stop the calls. You can reach us at 866-459-9358 until 6:00 PM Pacific Standard Time. I’m not available tou can speak with any of the other counselors in the office and they should be able to help you just the same so. Thanks and have a great day.”
Thankfully my Samsung identified the VM as potential spam.
I got the same call from a Justin Miller this morning. The call came from (407) 842-8187, but he asked me to call him back at at (866) 459-9358. I have never filled out an application for a student loan forgiveness program, so I know that this is a scam.
This is who just called me as well. Very interesting that they say they've been trying to call and that this is the first call I've received lol.. He said I already have an application open, which I know I don't.
The number that called me was 601-746-1972 (it says Poplarville, MS)
I just received a call from them (219-351-1822) and they told me to call the (866-459-9358) and so I called back and there was a phone operater asking if I owed more than $10,000 and then if I owe more than $5,000.
I thought it was legit so I left a message with my first and last name… rookie mistake. I ended up googling the numbers right after and found this thread and now I’m worried they may use my name or voice for authorizations or something…
Just got absolutely the same VM. Brief 1 sec call from 619-373-9560, and then VM from 618-230-0852. Guy said his name is Justin Novak and the same BS about student loan forgiveness program. I never applied for any student loans. 100% scam.
