On April 25, 2025, the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with the assistance of law enforcement agencies from Nigeria , Canada , Australia and Great Britain arrested 22 Nigerian nationals who were part of a major sextortion network that preyed on teenage boys, causing over 20 suicides since 2021. How their scam worked was:
The scammers would fraudulently pose as peers on social media platforms, luring boys into sending explicit images to them.
The scammers would blackmail their victims with threats of public exposure unless they paid money to the scammers.
At least one Nigerian scammer was extradited to the US this past January for causing the death of a South Carolina teenager by suicide. Two others were extradited last year for causing the death of a Pennsylvania teenager.
I’m so glad they did this. I get messages all of the time from young people that are attacked like this, with them asking me if it’s real. It’s basically the same script as the Jamaican PCH guys except you have to pay 1000 in “green dot money paks” to pay them off from releasing the supposed pictures or for being reported for “talking to a child.” It’s disgusting
When exposed they should be called gay pedophile men publicly to their fellow countrymen/women. Let their people handle it all and we most likely won’t have to worry about them scamming again. That isn’t a slur against anyone gay however Nigerians face criminal charges for this and worse when the people get them in the streets. Help them to feel the pain of their crimes.
On a place I moderate at, I’ve had multiple people message me asking if these guys were for real, with no idea on what to do. Such a disgusting thing to do to someone. All for the 1000 dollar gift card, like most of the other scams.
