After failing to ask me personal questions regarding my browsing behavior, “Shawn” remotely connected to my virtual machine and attempted to run QuickAssist to “connect to the secure server” but failed to do as such.
- “Shawn” falsely claimed there were “unknown activities” on my computer and that it was infected with the “csrss.exe trojan,” causing “foreign IPs” to be on it before going to anydesk.com and asking me to hang up the call so I can accept a callback from his “billing supervisor, David Watson,” who uses the Skype number (425) 310-5443 (serviced by Bandwidth.com).
- “David” then tried to get me to provide my billing details through Notepad, but I refused on the grounds that my fake bank will lock my account if the payment isn’t made on a secure web portal, prompting him to nearly refuse to “suppoat” before he simply asked for my personal info before asking me to let him control the computer for 40-45 seconds.
- During this time, “David” opened the Task Manager, Settings and the Resource Monitor before installing two adblockers on my web browser: Adblock and Adblock Plus, before he called me back and asked me to pay $299 to “SoftServices” via PayPal.
- I told “David” that my card was declined and that I needed to pay on the website, so I was asked to log into my email. I instead logged into the Bhenchod Song.
