@JusticeinTexas#142211 Boy they just love old ladies! Of course when Granny saw the error and all the noise, she turned the computer off. Dang it takes a lot of time to come back on after a hard poweroff! Kept him waiting for a half hour just while the computer checked the harddrive… eagerly anticipating it reaching 100% Growing ever more closely, you could just hear him chomping at the bit to dive right in… 100% yeah! Oh, what’s this, oh my, it appears to be checking another hard drive… this one is /dev/sda6 (previous was sda5). I think he poped a vein with that one.
Eventually got to the opening of a browser. But granny only does e-mail on the computer and doesn't even know if there is a browser installed. Of course, she does everything internet related through safari on her iPad. He wasn't too keen when she kept trying to get on the iPad to satisfy his request. And as it turns out, there is no 'windows' key on this computer - it has a "Fn" key instead. Hmmmm... strange. He asked for what version of windows was being run and everyone knows that granny has no clue about that sort of stuff... but on the front of the computer it says "Ultra 30". Oh, at the top is says "Sun Microsystems". That seems odd, but the script continued. He wanted an e-mail address, so a fake one was promptly given. He said that when in e-mail to open another 'tab'. "Tab?" Granny inquired - "I don't know what that is - it's just a program to do e-mail only and I don't think it can do anything else". He asked what e-mail program, and granny said something like SunMail 2.3 (completely fictious).
So after about an hour, he said he couldn't help granny and that one of his techs would be calling so they can connect the computer to their windows server. I asked why he couldn't help me, and started hinting that maybe he didn't know much about computers, so what was he doing answering the phones when someone more qualified should be doing that job. That really seems to set them off quite a bit.
Called them, some woman answered. Gave them hell! Hopefully they shut down now!!!
