Fake eBay Gift Card Scam

These guys do the “buy a car with eBay gift card” scams. This number was taken from an invoice that was sent.

It is supposed to be the call center for eBay, but we all know it is not.

This likely will be taken down quickly.

To add, these guys are Romanian, and the call center is in Romania as well. ‘Michael’ answered the phone when called.

@reportingscammers007#133276 Just saying that the Google subscriber is not available…

But in case it comes back up... how did these guys reach you? Robocall? Stumbled across a web site? From that bogus invoice you received?

One of the hardest things I've found is determining how to approach them initially. It helps to know how the scam was found, so a better initial contact can be made that sounds reasonable! Thanks.

@Otis#133282 Fair point, I should have elaborated more and not assumed that everyone knows how these eBay scams work.

  • 1. Scammer posts advertisement on CraigsList, OfferUp, Facebook, etc. with an email address to contact them at
  • 2. Victim replies to scammer, asking for more photos, etc.
  • 3. Scammer tells victim they are going overseas for the military or some other excuse, and tells victim they are selling the car via eBay Motors.
  • 4. Victim sends scammer address and phone number
  • 5. Scammer sends victim a realistic looking invoice from 'eBay'
  • 6. Victim buys eBay gift cards to send to scammer - victim never gets vehicle
  • @reportingscammers007#133320 Got it - Thanks!. Just wondering how, besides simply call flooding them, we could play with the SOB’s to drag it out a little longer! I guess in these type scams, you can’t really do much unless you are the ‘victim’ and in the position to really mess with them. Outsiders would be suspicious I think.

These scams are easy to find - go to offerup.com or letgo.com and search for the term ‘gmail’. Or simply look at the used car section and sort by the cheapest car. You’ll see them post their Gmail address. Email them and let the fun begin.

Note, report the email to [email protected] (or what ever provider they use) and also to the domain registrar so it can be suspended.
Like I mentioned earlier, these guys are unique in that they arent Indian/Pakistani, but Romanian. You can hear it in their accent, and you can email them in Romanian (use Google Translate) and they will reply back.
