How does this scam work?
They want your credit card number. When you call they will answer with a generic “holidays” and “what is your confirmation number?” That question is a way to weed out scambaiters. Just tell them that you checked out their website and need to get a confirmation number and want to learn more about their vacation packages. Because they rely on cold calls and are scammers, they don’t receive many phone calls from their website, other than scam victims and scambaiters.
Let them go through their spiel. See how fast they ask for your credit card info.
Ask them about their corporate information and the hotels they represent. Their robocalls claim that they are part of the Marriott/Hilton/Wyndham rewards programs. When you ask them about this, they say that these hotels are sponsors. They have no affiliation with legit hotel chains.
Telemarketers must transmit their telephone number and, if possible, their name, to your caller ID service. This protects your privacy, increases accountability on the telemarketer’s part and helps in law enforcement efforts. -ftc.gov
