This thread is dedicated to the emails you receive and other websites that state “you’ve won”, referring to a gift card, home appliance, electronic device, or some other expensive item.
When you click a strangely-worded website (often found towards the final few pages of a Google Search result) you may stumble upon to a site that claims you’re the billionth search user, and can claim a free prize. Rest assured, this is a scam that attempts to steal your credit card info for “shipping and handling fees”.
In many cases, the scam is legally operated. When you agree to the terms and conditions, which involve monthly, automatic charges on your credit card and agreements to marketing services without receiving a prize, you’re screwed. Here are websites, emails, and customer service phone numbers associated with these phishing sites. Please do not visit any sites unless you understand the risks associated with doing so.
