On March 3, 2026, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida arrested 28-year-old Atlanta, Georgia resident D’Zyre Youngblood for serving as a money mule for a “jury duty” scam facilitated out of a Georgia state prison. In this particular scam,
A prison inmate will call the victim under the false personation of “Captain Eric Dietrich from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office” and threaten to arrest them on the grounds of missing jury duty.
In order to avoid being “arrested,” the victim was asked to withdraw $79,000 from their bank account and convert them into cryptocurrency at several Bitcoin ATMs.
Some of the stolen funds were converted back into U.S. dollars and transferred into a bank account connected to Youngblood before being spent on retail purchases and digital payment apps.
Authorities were able to trace the funds back to a Coinbase account operated by Youngblood, who was recently bonded out of the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $20,000 bailout.
