Thank you for your initial report :folded_hands:

I decided to reach out to this guy and told ‘Jesse’ that I received his email on my other email address and would like to continue discussing using the scambait address that I emailed him with.

We talked, and I gave him false information that he requested (such as home address and phone number, neither of which exists). I assume he will only use these to sell or give to other scammers, so verifying them wasn’t important to him.

Nevertheless, he eventually asked for a bitcoin deposit (worth $1,900) into his wallet:

After searching this on blockchain.com, we can see that he has received approximately $24,000 from what I assume are all scam victims. The payment amounts that he has received vary from a couple of hundred dollars to thousands. He then sends this money to other addresses, possibly to avoid suspicion, so that he does not take the money directly out of that account. Therefore, his account balance remains at $0.

After following the money he sent to a different BTC wallet, I can see that this process is repeated and sent to 4 or 5 different wallets before being kept as Bitcoin or taken out of the account. Here is a wallet that has a hefty balance at the time of writing this, with money seemingly originating from the wallet provided by ‘Jesse: bc1q53lrmaa9ezp8xp7cwlsnkejr660nqn7rhkqdjd
~ lmk any thoughts, maybe it is just a safety measure, they have to send the funds to a boss/manager that pays them, or a bit of both?

You can check all the info of “Jesse’s” BTC wallet here:

Before ‘sending him the money’, I had to ‘double check’ that I had the right wallet, using an IP grabber and a URL shortener, I asked him to confirm everything was correct. He isn’t as stupid as I expected and didn’t click the link, although in an email response, he told me that that was the correct address, even without verifying.

After telling him I sent the amount, he asked for proof. I sent him another IP grabber link, which ‘contained the screenshot of my transaction receipt’. Since then, he hasn’t replied despite my offering to help give any other info needed. He hasn’t clicked either of the links; perhaps they are blocked by security measures he takes, or he simply doesn’t want to risk clicking on them. Nevertheless, I will reply if that status changes.

If you would like a full account of the emails exchanged between me and ‘Jesse’, leave a reply, and I can send them over.
