I remember seeing a YouTube video (I cannot for the life of me remember who it was by), but the scammer said that they get paid even if people waste their time?
Is this true, or are they just trying to save what little ego they have left?

(This Is My Opinion) I believe that they are trying to say anything for you to stop calling them, and to make you feel like calling them is a waste of time. They usually get paid on commission. So they lose money.
If the scammers do not meet monthly quota, they are let go. If they met the quota but Loot (sales) are low then they loose commissions and annual bonus (annual bonus around Diwali festival)
