Basically title, I’ve been doing calls for a while without a virtual machine so i really couldnt last long in the call with the scammers, but now I’ve decided to install one and i was wondering if there is any risk of using a virtual machine without VPN
I personally use one when I am baiting running on my host, so I’m not sure if it’s super important, but I do it as a safety measure
ALWAYS use a VPN with your Virtual Machine. Especially when allowing scammers to connect!
This is to make it practically impossible for them to find out your IP, roughly where you are located - ETC ETC ETC. I always use one.
I very much concur!
Basically - Without a VPN they’ll be able to get your home IP address, either live or from connectivity logs. If you don’t have any security on your home network, you’re relying your ISP & likely their provided router, should they decide to do something to you.
Using a VPN is going to change your external IP address to the service you use. So ideally, you are putting a layer of anonymity between you & the scammers by using a VPN service.
Just using “a” VPN isn’t really the answer, because you could use your work VPN, or a friends VPN, & not be nearly as anonymous. Use something not connected to you.
This all assumes that you are using VM’s on a home machine, &/or from home. If you are setting up VM’s with a cloud based provider like AWS or Azure, then the VPN is likely over-kill. At least in my opinion.
This is probably a dumb question lol but do i need to install the vpn in the virtual machine or in my normal pc
normal pc
If your normal PC is connected to a German VPN, the VM will think you are in Germany and show as such
