Additional information about this scam: I found the number on validnumber with a note saying this:
“SOMEONE STATING NAME IS AGENT ALAN MARSHALL CALLING FROM WASHINGTON BRANCH OF THE DEA WITH BADGE NUMBER 3479825 AND THAT A DOCTOR\'S DEA NUMBER IS INVOLVED IN A CASE. WHEN I STATED THIS SEEMS LIKE A SCAM HE SAID I COULD HANG UP ANY TIME SO I HUNG UP. SEEMS VERY SUSPICIOUS.”
I called and Alan Marshal (one L) said he was looking for the doctor because there is an investigation going on. They are using publicly available doctor’s names and NPI numbers to run a SSA-like scam. So if you’d like to bait keep that in mind.
Alan got upset when I told him I know how to read and write and so it wasn’t necessary for me to “read back” to him the information he just had given me.
