This was very elaborate:
I applied for a web dev gig on Upwork, the guy wanted me to make a site for his coffee shop and only communicated through telegram.
Asked me to accept payment in Crypto, and to use this site called bitwamix.com. Once I registered, he “transferred” the appropriate BTC amount over (pretty sure they just manipulated their back end to show that).
As soon as I try to withdraw the amount, it tells me I can’t. The “live support” tells me I need to make a bunch of insurance payments and what not to verify my wallet. Me, thinking it wouldn’t be fair if the client lost his money, obliged. The “support” kept asking for more “insurance” payments until finally they stopped replying, simultaneously the client stops replying about my website progress.
I find the IG of the real coffee shop, DM them and they tell me they never contracted anyone to make a site.
Overall I lost a fairly large amount. The site hides behind Cloudflare and a DNS mask so I reported them to cloudflare.
