On September 3, 2025, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida arrested 56-year-old Oxford, South Carolina resident Cory Woodall for facilitating a romance scam, where:
- Woodall contacted his victim, a 70-year-old woman, via email under the guise of a retired 4-star general.
- The victim will be asked to send him nearly $90,000 in cash, gift cards and Bitcoin under the guise of helping a wounded military dog and bring Woodall back to the states.
- the money would instead be used to purchase a 2023 Hyundai, a trailer and a lawn mower.
Woodall is currently being held without bond at the Volusia County Jail on charges of grand theft and organized scheme to defraud.
