I want to just drop some quick info here on the different routing options that a phone number can be sent to:
You’ll often hear the term “Parking” a number (Call Parking) which isn’t really accurate, but a good quick way to indicate the number is no longer answering. As you can see by the MANY options that can be instantly set and reset, you can never really trust a number is down. They could route the number to any of those options, including a “no longer in service” system recording. 5 minutes later, they can just as easily switch it back to an inbound route. They will often set the “Terminate Call” route, which just doesn’t even ring usually, the call just drops.
Obviously, I’m using FreePBX here and other systems are maybe different? I don’t know… I have a vici server installed but powered off right now, so if someone is really interested, I can boot it up and check the options there.
